Hymir Men's NeoShell® Waterproof Smock

LIGHT, NOT SILLY LIGHT

A very lightweight, technical hooded waterproof smock for focused, streamlined, stripped down lightweight performance.

Lightweight often just leads to wet. That's silly light. Our Hymir smock is the lightest Polartec® NeoShell® mountain jacket in the world, but is built with zero compromise to its waterproofness. NeoShell® is also the world’s most breathable waterproof fabric.

That’s clever light.

Very Light, Very Packable

The palm sized stuff sack clips to a harness or disappears into a rucksack lid.

Ultra Breathable

3 layer, ultra lightweight, micro-ripstop Polartec® NeoShell® fabric. NeoShell® has a highly aerobic air permeability with advanced wicking capabilities to keep moisture vapour away from your core. Prior to NeoShell® the elusive balance between waterproof and windproof protection and true breathability had yet to exist in a hard shell fabric.

As Sticky As

Triple reinforced stitching ensures the super sticky VELCRO™ will not detach from the garment. Hypalon® cuff tabs are harder wearing and longer lasting than fabric cuff tabs. Scooped cuffs protect the backs of hands.

No Snags

Anti-snag hem draw cords discourage snagging when harnesses and gear is worn; a problem encountered with outdated loop draw cords.

Really good for ice climbing

Good cut for ice climbing, great arm length and cut for swinging tools. Actually forgot I was even wearing it, which is a complement to any hard shell. Never swamped out no matter how hard I was working.

Top notch smock

I wanted a light weight jacket that could cover a multitude of sins, from climbing, mountaineering, cycle touring and mountain biking / bikepacking - the Hymir has done it all.

It's perfect for what I want and is so small and lightweight. I'm a 38" chest and took the small, but have found I can fit a fenrir down jacket and other layers underneath. Used it recently in a winter expedition to the Georgian caucuses, and it worked admirably when lugging a 30kg + pack in that I didn't overheat. It also works well in the hoolies as I found when battling 45mile winds and lashing rain in the outer Hebrides.

I've not tried the hood with a bike helmet (yet), but when cycling without and the hood up, you're cocooned in dryness and your periphery vision isn't affected. Even better is that the hood moves with your head as you look about once you've adjusted it (easily done).

If you are in harsher climates though, you do need to layer up (obvs), but particularly with the Hymir as it isn't massively windproof and you can feel the chill. That's to be expected with a lightweight jacket to my mind though - and the only reason it's dropped a star.

Can't recommend it enough (assuming you like smocks!)

Awesome Jacket. Awesome Customer Service.

What a great all rounder. My go to garment for trail/fell running, cycling and hill/mountain walking. My hymir jacket has put up with 2.5 years of abuse, is still going strong and has seen me through all UK weather has had to throw at it. Super waterproof, super lightweight, super breathable, super durable. Awesome and reliable piece of kit.

I'm also hugely impressed with Jottnar's customer service, they really go the extra mile to take care of their customers and ensure a positive experience.

Robust enough to inspire confidence.

Another double thumbs up for yet another sublime product from Jottnar. Light enough to forget you're wearing a 'hardshell', robust enough to inspire confidence. And immaculately put together as usual.

Very happy.

Bought this for a ski tour in Austria. Abused it for a week in the Cairngorms prior to the trip and excellent for both. Takes a ski helmet in the hood, but compresses nicely without. The yellow was notably cooler on glaciers in sun than my Salopettes - worth thinking about before buying a darker colour. Very happy.
